Put constraints ahead of suggestions

For a day trip, say how far you want to walk, whether stairs are a problem, what time you must return, and which activities you dislike. For a household project, give the dimensions, budget range, tools available, and work you will hire out. Missing constraints often explain why a polished plan feels impractical.

Separate fixed requirements from preferences. “Must have two separate beds” is different from “would prefer a river view.” Ask for a comparison that shows unmet requirements explicitly. A list of attractive options is not useful if each fails a condition you care about.

Try a simple planning brief

Start with an outing you know well so you can recognize mistakes. Ask for a morning plan, a bad-weather alternative, and a list of facts needing current verification. Review travel time and allow room between activities. Do not accept a minute-by-minute schedule merely because it looks precise.

Plan a relaxed half-day outing for two adults. We prefer scenery and small specialty museums, want no more than one mile of walking, and need to be home by 3 p.m. Separate fixed facts from suggestions. Identify current opening hours and accessibility details that must be checked with the venue.

Use the same structure for organizing a family gathering, comparing internet plans, or preparing questions for a contractor. The assistant can reduce clerical work while you retain the decision about what matters.

Handle documents carefully

When comparing quotations, paste only the necessary, non-sensitive portions. Remove account numbers and other people's contact details. Ask for inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and questions. Do not let the assistant assume that a missing warranty term means the warranty is included.

For physical projects, AI can help prepare a shopping list or explain terminology, but dimensions and structural or electrical safety need appropriate verification. A plausible drawing is not an engineering assessment. Use actual manufacturer instructions when installing or operating equipment.

Keep a plan you can use offline

Once the details are checked, save a plain version with addresses, confirmation numbers kept privately, and the date of verification. A plan that depends on reopening a long chat can be awkward when traveling. Share only the details other people need.

End with a short decision list: what is booked, what is tentative, and what still needs a call. If the app says it performed an action, check the actual confirmation. Planning and execution are separate steps, even when they appear in the same conversational interface.
