A little upkeep for your collection
Add a video to Graylinks
The easy way
Open the video editor, add the video’s details, and download your updated website. No coding is required.
The editor works on your computer. Your additions go live after you upload the new ZIP to graylinks.com.
- Open the downloaded editor. Keep it on your computer. Each downloaded website package includes a fresh editor with the current catalog.
- Paste a YouTube video link. Add its full title, channel name, publication date, and category. You can also add a short description and key topics. Copy the date from YouTube’s video details, not the date you added it to a playlist.
- Choose “Add video.” Add more videos if you like. You can also find and edit an existing entry.
- Choose “Download updated website ZIP.” The download updates the searchable video list, categorized text index, related video links, topic shelves, and catalog counts. It also includes a current catalog backup and a fresh editor.
- Upload and extract the ZIP in graylinks.com’s web root. Use your hosting File Manager and replace the matching website files. Keep your previous ZIP as a backup.
A couple of helpful habits
Use one current editor at a time. After an update, use the fresh editor in that ZIP, or import its video-catalog.json into your existing editor. Downloading a file is the step that saves a portable copy of your work.
An unknown publication date is allowed and stays clearly marked at the end of date-sorted lists. The editor does not guess publication dates or silently copy new videos from YouTube.
A link you already have is flagged before it becomes a duplicate. Exact duplicate links from the original collection have been removed.
For technical friends
The catalog is a plain video-catalog.json file. The public pages include all titles, dates, and ordinary HTML links before JavaScript runs. An optional YouTube Data API import in the editor can retrieve publication dates and titles; it requires your own API key, which is never included in downloads.
Anyone can download a copy of this editor. It contains public site content and cannot change your hosted website or sign in to your hosting account.
